With substantial operating difficulties from implementing a new Enterprise Resource and Planning system, this manufacturer asked for help from Distribution Design. Shipping labor at the 200,000 sq. ft. distribution center had increased by 40% since the startup of the new system. The company had also stopped daily cycle counting because of the start-up problems. When daily counting resumed, only 61% of the locations were 100% correct. Distribution Design recommended improvements in inventory management, space utilization, systems functionality, processes, and pick area slotting. Another recommendation was how to increase the throughput of the sortation system from 39% of cases to 90%
