This well-known manufacturer of packaging components serves the beverage, healthcare, and food markets. The plant operates 24/7/365 producing large rolls of paperboard with thousands of SKUs. The material storage and handing processes, space, and layout were obsolete because of the company’s growth. The warehousing operation was handling 33% more volume than the maximum volume intended for the facility. As a result, productivity and throughput had declined.
Distribution Design’s Operational Audit identified many opportunities for improvement and provided recommendations for each of the opportunities. The Audit Report showed how much the long travel times of lift trucks could be reduced, and how the better management of dock doors and empty trailers would increase throughput.
